About Us

Our Story: The Valley Bus Society
The Valley Bus Society was born in 1984 from a simple yet powerful idea: transportation should be a right, not a privilege. In Drumheller, Alberta, a group of compassionate community members, backed by The Royal Purple and Elks clubs, came together to purchase a handibus for seniors and individuals with disabilities. What started as a modest initiative has grown into a beloved non-profit, serving the Drumheller Valley for over 40 years with dedication and heart.

Our early days were shaped by the Town of Drumheller, which briefly managed operations before handing the reins to our newly formed society. Since then, we’ve been driven by a volunteer board and the unwavering support of residents who believe in our mission. From our first bus to our current fleet, we’ve stayed true to our goal of providing low-cost, accessible transportation that empowers our clients to live fuller, more connected lives.

Our Mission and Vision

  • Mission: To ensure affordable, accessible transportation for seniors and those requiring assistance, creating an inclusive and barrier-free Drumheller Valley.
  • Vision: A community where mobility is never a barrier to independence, connection, or care.

Milestones in Our Journey

  • 1984: Founded with a single handibus, thanks to local clubs.
  • 2017: Expanded routes to outer communities like Carbon and Michichi, broadening our reach.
  • 2017: Welcomed a new $78,000 Ram Promaster bus, funded by provincial grants and community efforts.
  • 2023: Partnered with Bubba T’s Bus Tours & Shuttle Service, enhancing operations while we focus on fundraising.

Who We Serve
Our services are designed for seniors and individuals with mobility challenges, but our impact reaches further. We’ve transported kids to summer camps, guests to weddings, and families to special events, proving that accessible transportation benefits the entire community. Our clients rely on us for daily errands, medical visits, and social outings—each ride a testament to our commitment to care.

Our Team and Partners
Today, our operations are powered by Bubba T’s Bus Tours & Shuttle Service, a local company led by Norm and Tom Fournier. With decades of experience, they bring reliability and warmth to every trip. Our volunteer board, currently led by President Ron Tremblay, works tirelessly to secure funding and plan for the future. Together, we’re supported by the Town of Drumheller’s annual grant and the generosity of donors and volunteers who keep us rolling.

Community at Our Core
The Valley Bus Society isn’t just about getting from point A to point B—it’s about building connections. We’ve seen firsthand how a simple ride can brighten a day, ease a burden, or spark a friendship. Our drivers don’t just drive; they assist, listen, and care. This personal touch has made us a trusted name in Drumheller, from the bustling streets of downtown to the quiet corners of Rosedale.

Looking Ahead
As we move forward, we’re committed to growing sustainably. We aim to maintain affordable fares, upgrade our fleet, and explore new ways to serve our community—perhaps even expanding public access further. But we can’t do it alone. Your support, whether through ridership, donations, or volunteering, fuels our mission.
